#MuseumOlympics

#MuseumOlympics is an international celebration of aesthetic strength, tenacity, and JPEGs, organized by the venerable Bay Area-based International #MuseumOlympics Committee. #MuseumOlympics arose from a desire to harness the huge momentum of the Olympic Games on social media in order to make art relevant to this shared cultural experience.

Quietly launched on Friday, July 27, 2012—the day of the London Summer Olympics' opening ceremony—the #MuseumOlympics hashtag quickly spread amongst museums and art lovers everywhere. For the duration of the Summer Olympics, the #MuseumOlympics torch was passed from institution to institution, fueled by enthusiastic participants, entertained on-lookers, and a spirit of friendly competition among hundreds of artworks shared from museum collections and exhibitions.
